Pink City Kid
Pink City Kid is a shocking but charming and uplifting memoir of an ex-street kid and childhood slave.
Naresh Kishwani spent his childhood and teenage years living as a street kid in Jaipur, the so-called Pink City of India. For much of that time, he was trapped in some form of modern-day slavery. Pink City Kid is a first-hand account of his experiences.
Having never attended school, Naresh possesses only minimal literacy, and so wrote Pink City Kid orally by speaking his story into a mobile phone app. The result is an intimate and compelling tale that gives an authentic voice to those discarded children who live in situations of homelessness, physical and sexual abuse, and slavery. However dark some of the episodes in Pink City Kid are, the author never becomes self-pitying, but radiates a refreshing innocence and positivity. Naresh reveals himself to be a highly intelligent child who, despite living in the very worst of circumstances, and often being treated with immense cruelty, rises far above his situation and retains his dignity, hope, and kindness.
Pink City Kid may well prove to be one of the most original and ground-breaking books of our time.
